Q:   What is the Patricia R. Dempster Scholarship Fund?

In 2002, Western created the Patricia R. Dempster Scholarship Fund in honor of a former Board member.

Q:   What are the scholarships?

There are eight scholarship amounts offered ($5,000, $3,000 and six at $2,000) to Western members.

Q:   When are applications accepted?

The application will be available online at western.org in the first quarter of the year. Sign up to be notified of the application start date next year.

Q:   What are the requirements for consideration?

To be considered for a scholarship the applicant must:

  • Be a Western member in good standing
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Currently be a high school senior planning to graduate in 2010
  • Be in the process of enrolling in a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college/university
  • Submit all required documentation by the stated deadline

Q:   What documentation is required?

  • A completed essay on the required topic
  • Official high school transcripts mailed by the high school directly
  • Two letters of recommendation, which may be from teachers, spiritual leaders, employers and/or influential adults in their life (Letters must reference applicant by full name)
