ATM Safety Tips
One of the benefits of your Western membership is the convenience of using your Visa Debit Card or ATM card to access cash and account information. With that convenience comes the responsibility of protecting yourself and your account information. Below are some safety tips for choosing and using an ATM.
Choosing an ATM
- Use ATMs that you are familiar with or that are in well-lit locations where you feel comfortable.
- Have your card ready before you approach the ATM.
- Do not use ATMs that appear to have been tampered with. If you encounter one, inform the financial institution.
Using an ATM
- Keep a safe, reasonable distance between you and others while at the ATM. Do not allow anyone to try to help you with your transaction, even if you are having trouble.
- Stand close to the ATM and shield the keypad with your hand when keying in your PIN (Personal Identification Number).
- If the ATM is not working correctly, cancel the transaction and use a different ATM. Report the problem to the financial institution.
- Carefully secure your card and cash in your wallet, handbag, or pocket before leaving the ATM.
Managing Your ATM Use
- Memorize your PIN. Never write it on your Visa Debit Card or ATM card.
- Never disclose your PIN to anyone.
- Do not use obvious numbers, like your date of birth, for your PIN.
- Check your account balance and account statements regularly and report any discrepancies immediately to our Member Support Center at 877-254-9328, option 4.
